What are GPTs?

OpenAI's GPTs, are a new way to create custom versions of ChatGPT for specific purposes. They can be used in a variety of contexts, such as learning the rules of a board game, teaching math, or designing stickers. The creation process is straightforward and does not require coding skills. It involves starting a conversation, giving instructions and extra knowledge, and choosing what the GPT can do, such as searching the web, making images, or analyzing data.

Capabilities

GPTs can be created for personal use, for a company's internal use, or for public use. OpenAI has also introduced the GPT Store, where creations by verified builders can be featured. GPTs in the store become searchable and may climb the leaderboards. The most useful and delightful GPTs are spotlighted in categories like productivity, education, and "just for fun".

Use Cases

Developers can connect GPTs to the real world by defining custom actions that make one or more APIs available to the GPT. These actions allow GPTs to integrate external data or interact with the real world, such as connecting GPTs to databases, plugging them into emails, or making them your shopping assistant.

Limitations and Challenges

OpenAI has taken steps to ensure the privacy and safety of GPTs. They have set up systems to review GPTs against their usage policies and prevent users from sharing harmful GPTs. Builders can also verify their identity to build user trust.

Future Developments

Enterprise customers can deploy internal-only GPTs. Early customers like Amgen, Bain, and Square are already leveraging internal GPTs to do things like craft marketing materials embodying their brand, aid support staff with answering customer questions, or help new software engineers with onboarding.

GPTs are part of a series of models developed by OpenAI, with each subsequent model introducing enhancements and additions. The latest model, GPT-4, introduces multimodal capabilities that allow it to process both text and image inputs while generating text outputs.

The potential implications of GPTs on the U.S. labor market are significant. Approximately 80% of the U.S. workforce could have at least 10% of their work tasks affected by the introduction of GPTs, while around 19% of workers may see at least 50% of their tasks impacted.

GPTs represent a significant advancement in AI technology, offering a wide range of applications and potential impacts on various sectors. They provide a platform for anyone to create a tailored version of ChatGPT, opening up new possibilities for AI use in daily life, work, and beyond.
